Registration

To pre-register please email registration@sirdug.org and give us your name and company. If you are not already on our distribution list and wish to be, include your email address and phone number. You can also call the SIRDUG message line at 704-556-6621 and leave the same above information, speak clearly and spell your email address.

Pre-registration must be completed by Midnight Monday April 8th. Please feel free to invite others from your company (just make sure they pre-register as well). If you know others in your company who are interested in attending future SIRDUG events, please encourage them to become members of our distribution list (we just need their names, email addresses and phone numbers).

Registration Note
SIRDUG will be calling or emailing a confirmation for each person who pre-registers by the deadline. If you have pre-registered and have not received a confirmation by the day after the deadline, please notify us as your registration may not have been received.

If you have not pre-registered by the deadline, you may pre-register after the deadline or register at the door, but the availability of presentation handouts and lunch can not be guaranteed and confirmations will not be sent.


Directions to the meeting site:

The meeting is in the IBM Harris Blvd facility

North bound on I-77 (from the Rock Hill direction): Turn right onto I-85 North and follow next directions.

On I-85 (coming from either direction): Take exit 45B onto Harris Blvd. West Turn Left at 2nd stop light onto IBM Drive and follow directions below.

South bound on I-77 (from the Statesville direction) Turn left onto Harris Blvd. East (exit 18)
Go approximately 6.3 miles to the 10th stop light (counting the one at top of I-77 ramp)
Turn Right onto IBM Drive (Don't turn onto the IBM Drive at the 7th stop light).

Once on IBM Drive, Turn Right at 2nd drive. Go through gate (tell them that you are here for a SIRDUG meeting) Find a parking place and enter the Visitors Lobby. Follow the SIRDUG signs to the Cafeteria Conference Room.


Presentation Details

Joel Goldstein - Biography

Is an internationally acknowledged performance expert, consultant, and instructor. He has more than three decades of data processing experience, and has been directly involved with the performance management and capacity planning of online database systems for more than 20 years. He has more than ten years of experience addressing DB2 design, performance, and capacity planning issues, and has assisted many large national and international clients with their systems and applications. He is a frequent speaker at DB2 user groups and Computer Measurement Group meetings throughout North America, Europe, and the Far East. In addition to publishing more than two dozen articles on DB2 performance issues, he is also a technical editor for Enterprise Systems Journal, The Relational Journal, and was the database editor for CMG Transactions. Joel is a Director of the Northeast Region CMG, is a director of TRIDEX, was on the CMG national program committee for five years and has been a member of the North American IDUG CPC for five years.

Scott Hayes - Biography

Scott Hayes is President and Founder of Database-GUYS Inc., a privately held company specializing in DB2 UDB Performance Tools and Consulting. Scott has been a frequent speaker at IDUG and DB2 conferences, a contributor to the DB2 Performance Journal, and an author for DB2 Magazine and the IDUG Solutions Journal. Scott has worked with DB2 since 1989, presently holds several IBM DB2 certifications, and is a member of the IBM DB2 GOLD Consultant Group. Articles and presentations aside, what Scott most enjoys is helping DB2 UDB users achieve dramatic performance results.

Presentation #1: "Cut Query Times in Half: Sort & I/O Tuning"

Abstract:
Attend this session and learn how to measure and evaluate DB2 UDB UNIX, Linux, and Windows sort and I/O performance, see measurements used in case studies, and learn how to configure your DB2 UDB engine for optimal query performance. Learn 10 steps towards performance excellence. Many formulas and case studies will be presented to demonstrate the techniques.

Presentation #2: "More Memory Miracles: Advanced Bufferpool Tuning w/ Vx Updates"

Abstract:
This presentation covers over 30 different formulas and metrics for detailed analysis of bufferpool performance. Strategies for assigning tablespaces to bufferpools will be discussed, as well as methods for optimizing bufferpool sizes. The session attendee should take away several ideas for performing DB2 Bufferpool memory miracles in their own shops.
